I do not agree with abortions myself. I do not like the idea at all and have never defended it as being a good thing. Until we get to a level in which we are teachings responsibility above pointing the finger it is what has to be for the best. If we get rid of abortions right now before we have learned responsibility we will cause much more harm and death.

If you believe we need to respect animals, why did you say 'however we want' is reply to my post? Saying such would defend the idea of cruelty to animals. I personally do not believe we should go after them for sport alone myself. If you kill it you better eat it. Just hunting and killing an animal because it is sport if not a mentally healthy thing. Even in hunting and fishing and such there needs to be a level of respect present. It needs to be something more than a sport.

eh baby
how do you define respect for Gods creation? Abortion?

posted by drasticmeasures on February 24, 2005 at 2:57 PM | link to this | reply

why would anyone abuse or starve an animal
unless they already have mental disorders, and the abuse is a sign of socio/psychopathic tendancies. No body in their right mind will torture an animal. I do not think humans have the right to inflict torture for the sake of pleasure on animals. I do think we have the right to arbitrarily kill them for sport and food.

try this -- shouldn't we respect God's creation just as much as we respect God?

Are you saying it is all right to abuse animals or starve them if that is what you feel like doing?

My dog just told me
I'd better NOT treat him like an animal.
He says God told him so.

Experience

So you treat you pets as part of the family?  I see that as a very common thing, but I have seen nothing that says the Bible backs up that kind of thing.  In fact I get the feeling that if one were to get Biblical then you would have to treat animals as being very separate from the family.

As for your story about the guy and his ducks leading to his child being blind, I could really dissect the whole thing and show just how poor of a lesson that teaches.  Such stories are modern attempts at creating fables based on belief and they fall greatly short of really having the true lesson they are suppose to have.

According to that story the man was punished by God for his misdeeds as a child by having a child born blind.  What kind of horrible monster of a God is that?  And how egotistical of the father to think that it is all about him.  No, it is a very poor story.  You know I think I might do a post on such stories here.  They are becoming very common and all try to have religious meaning to them, but in general end up really being poor examples.

Great reply.  That is a good point to make. And I do agree that such is what is said in the Bible.

Now that does not go into the idea of if we should treat animals as being human.

Do animals have emotions and such?

Can animals think?

How much like man are animals?

This of course can go into the idea of seeing where evolution gives us connections to the rest of the animal kingdom.  The Bible really never gets in to that aspect of it all though.  There seems to be an attitude in the Bible of ignoring these questions and I think that has created some of the ideas in society about man being able to get away with not treating animals with respect.  Many, many people looked down on animals greatly as if they are not very important.

Animals are more than pets
I have 2 Bejoin Fish dogs and I consider them more than a pet. They greet me when I go somewhere and come back. They follow me everywhere in my home. Thier my friends as well. I tell them I Love them at least one time a day. I hold them everyday and pet them as well. I Play with them and there toys. My pets are my friends as well. I remember a story told to me years ago. The man when he was young used tyo see ducks and poke the eyes out of them. He was very cruel.Well this man got older and got married. This man had a child. The child was born blind. At first the man did not think anything about this. Then the man had another baby. The baby was born blind again. Now this is starting to bother the parents because neither of the parents were blind. Then they had another baby. Again this baby was born blind. Now this really was bothering him. He asked a minister why his children were always being born blind. This minister said. Think about your life. Do you remember anything that you did to anyone in years past to injure them. So then he remembered about what he had done to the ducks. So the minister told him you have to pray and ask God's Forgiveness. So he did. It was a few years later but they had another baby. But this baby could see. So He got forgiven. It does matter what you do to animals as well.

I think there is a difference between dominion and domination.
Dominion is the care and responsibility for; Domination is power over.   The Bible says Man was given dominion, not the right to abuse, exploit, and ignore the needs of the creatures in this tattered garden.
