I am a RWE fan myself, mysteria.
I won two essay contests while in high school on Emerson's "Self-Reliance." They were my first paying gigs. Anyway, enough about my relationship with Ralph. I would almost bet that Twain sent this quote as a barb to James Fennimore Cooper.

mysteria, being careful is never indifference. Also, your quote means that
there are always people more and less talented than us. We should neither compare or stop trying on that basis. This is the problem I have with the grading system.
