I write about religion because is it a big part of the human experience. If one wishes to figure out these staring creatures called man they have to look at religion and ask questions.
You would be surprised at just how many atheist really do talk about religion. Actually not believing is not really the same as having no belief. One can lack belief, but still feel that there is a God out there. They just do not believe in God in a religious sense and that is what keeps them form talking about it. they a have no passion in the religious area.
Atheist however regularly are very passionate about their beliefs. Part of that comes from the simple fact that they are a minority and so have to talk loud to be heard, otherwise our spiritual needs get trampled by the majority.

I wonder at your blog
If you are an atheist, why do you find the need to write about religion. Most people who don't have a religion are indifferent to it. What is it about religion that makes you want to contend with it?

Ody
You need to listen to yourself. You are very much defending my ideas with that comment above your own. I can very honestly say I have given you 'nourishment' a try and I found it to be empty and lacking of any value to my life. Can you say the same? Can you honestly tell me that you have tried other beliefs? Can you honestly tell me that you are not so lost and blinded by the comfort you find in your beliefs system that you have gone and seriously studied other beliefs with such an open mind that you have taken those beliefs as seriously as you take a belief in Christ?

You need to understand that I figured out that atheism made sense through studying religions in general. I did not say 'I do not believe so now let me prove it'. I was trying to figure things out and saw what made sense and what did not.

Christians on the other hand try to tell people to be open minded yet they all approach other beliefs from the general idea that their beliefs are absolutely correct and so begin with the concept of trying to prove those other beliefs wrong before they study them.

You words here show a very hypocritical nature when one looks at what you generally claim to believe and you regular attitudes towards anything that does not agree with your faith. What you said here is not what you normally claim. You are not the worst I have seen when it comes to the blindness of the Christian attitude that is very much present and active in a good number of Christians, but you are up there.

Kooka
I agree that nurturing, Godly, goodness can come from many different avenues.  As you say, you get yours from your family.  But how can we know which source is the most effective unless we try them out?  One person may be filling up on wild beets while another has the finest cut of steak.  My point is that when one finds a wonderful source of nourishment, that is very effective, they are naturally inclined to return to the herd and share it with others.  We should not be too quick to dismiss such people as foolhardy.  We should not become too set in our ways.  We gain too much comfort in our culture and become acclimated to particular belief systems that we erroneously think are static.  The danger of that is that we may be missing out on something we never ever comprehended could exist and find out, too late, that all we were really holding on to was a great big bunch of nothing.

Excellent analogy, kook!  And so true.

Wow
I had a lot of typos in that one. I think my word processor at work likes to try and guess at my typos and so does not give me the chance to correct it myself. I would rather it just point out where my misspellings are and let me take care of them. I'll have to look and see if I can turn the automatic spell checker off. Since I am writing them at work and e-mailing them home I really do not have too much time to proof read my stuff. Of course tonight I just got home for a few minutes and had to go, so all I did was throw the post up
