Go to God as The Universe as an Organism

- Go to NOAH, GOMEDOME
the reason for the two versions
they were written by two different cultures
if you will read and separate
one version uses LORD -- this is the Yahvist version
the other uses plain old God -- this is the Eloist version
tagged by the name used for god.
someone, probably in the Persian era, put these all together as one story -- same as with the creation of man and woman stories

There are two versions of the Noah story in the Bible: one in which the animals go in two by two; theother in groups of clean/unclean animals of greater numbers.Greek and Mesopatmian myths. Get a grip. None of it is true. Even Genesis 2, vs 4 begins with man being created first: again, a different myth. Does no one in the States have an education?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe that they represent races. This is what was taught by Sunday School teachers and ministers who told these things to me as I was growing up -- and this is the basis behind bias against African Blacks -- the sin of Ham, I think, seeing his father, Noah, naked, and this being passed on to his son and then onto the Black Race (per past century's explanations).
I think there are people even here who will back me up on that.

Empty
The problem is not the information in the Bible it is the intreperation. Your information on Noah's sons and what they represent is not what the Bible says. They do not represent races. You may have been going on your own and outside information for your understanding of The Old Testament. It is not correct. The Bible is not a bulletet report. It is woven like a rich tapestry. The New Testament proves the Old Testament if you actually know how to study it and have studied if for a very long time without doctrinal strings attached.

empty_handed_painter -- I think the thing that amuses me the most
about this story and ones like it is that even with so many disconnects people still try to prove it as really happening. There have been expeditions to search for the actual boat and untold efforts to rewrite known science simply to accomodate the implausibility of this fable. If you get a chance you should read Ariala's response to my comment in her Random Acts of Kindness blog yesterday. She outlines an entire set of criteria assembled by people that want this story to be true. From water bubbling from the earth to mankind being vegetarians to the very climate of this planet being decidedly different than it is today during Noah's time. To me it is nothing more than re-writing the facts as we know them to suit the questions.

you know about Santa -- parents can explain pretty well anything -- like how does Santa get down that stovepipe and through that stove?
your comment about the myriad species reminds me
it's either Mark Twain in his LETTERS FROM THE EARTH (written by Beelzebub himself) or maybe Bill Cosby (maybe not -- that was just his "noah" routine ["how long can you tread water"]) or some later scientist, who noted the billions of species (insects and such) and all the microbes, disease organisms and such, and when he had finished describing (use your own imagination) you had Noah and his family bloated with bacteria and viruses and other such nasty things and flies and mosquitoes and such plagueing the ark's animals.
very unlikely scenario

empty_handed_painter -- the story of Noah and the Ark
is one that should be relegated to the nursery school. I think about the only portion of it that I can buy into is that a long long time ago there was one heck of a rainy season. This is supported by the fact that stories of a great flood, watery chaos, the land rising from the sea or whatever is sprinkled throughout ancient mythology. And from a variety of different cultures. The story itself however is virtually impossible to have taken place as the biblical version. Pre-continental drift is measured in millions of years (200-300 million) where the story of Noah is supposed to have happened 5,000 to 6,000 years ago. Where this is significant is that post continental drift there would have been no way for all of the animal species to have congregated in one spot. Nor could these same animals have dispersed to the far corners of the globe afterwards. The craft itself would have had to be the size of an aircraft carrier. This was built by one man out of wood? It goes on and on but for brevity I will just say that if anyone does think a shred of credence applies to this fable they should just sit down and count how many animal species are on the planet today. If they still want to hold to this notion they are giving a big vote to the chronology of the bible being seriously flawed and the evolution of all animal species to explain the vast number of animals on the planet today. To me this story has so many holes in it that I liken it to the time I was 5 years old and my parents told me Santa was coming down the chimney.....we had a pot bellied wood stove with a 10" stove pipe.
