spellcheck is an ass
which in some places doesn't mean butt but a mule which in turn in some places means a drugs carrier or shoes, and so it goes on. Sorry to ramble

I think my mother's muscles are stronger than mine
she does less writing and more sport. Cynthia, you won't mind that I mention that you mean lose not loose - ie as those whose standards of virtuosity are different to mine would say - Loose morals will make you lose your virginity.

Majroj, good points and I'm
pleased to hear from you. President Summers is one of those "STUPID WHITE MEN" in Michael Moore's last book, pretentious, self important...etc...etc..

fw, Harvrad has lost all it's top professors
in what used to be a world class African studies Dept. (They were all Black, and Summers managed to insult all of them)

ginnieb, guess there is often a counter shift
in POV between generations. My daughter tacked a bit towards center of my extreme left, but she is pretty aware of the big picture. (Her best courses were always Math and Science)

The Harvard guy is an, well you know, a rectal passage.
If my Joycie was still here, we'd be on our way down to Boston right this very moment so she could ram her math and science degrees up his butt.
I love that British proverb . "The mills of the god's grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine."
I hope the female god's down there grind his ass exceedingly
fine.

OK, we all have innate differences.
1. If I have an innate difference which is an educational or professional obstacle (say, a male going into nursing), I should still have an equal shot at trying for it. I don't need people telling me I would probably fail (and they did, they did), I don't need special treatment (I maybe didn't get any), I just need people to mind their friggin' business and quit kibitzing. I'm morally certain the Harvard president's job description doesn't include making these kind of comments, and if NOW doesn't mount a class action suit or something they need to wake up. Maybe Jody Foster could say something?
2. "Innate differences" in this case is tantamount to "innate disqualifiers". If there is a perceived "handicap" or disqualifier, then it becomes a handicap (just check the "Americans With Disability" laws, before the GOP wipes them off the face of the earth).
3. At least maybe he was being honest.

I think the Prez of Harvard meant ...
white men only, since Mexicans and blacks don't have muscles either.

My mother also never had muscles, rarely exercised and ate all the wrong things. I decided long ago that I would tread a different path.

Maybe some girls don't like what they saw in their mothers..the ones of our generation. Could it be that they are rebelling by falling back into the 50s mode of woman? I would sure hope not..and you make some awfully good points about how we've evolved...and how, at that time in the 50s, women regressed. It certainly demonstrates that we are capable of doing it all..and that Harvard President's remark is pitiful! :(
