In case somebody else hasn't mentioned it
you can adjust the speed of the mouse by going to the control panel and clicking on the mouse icon there. There are several things you can adjust there, including the type of pointer.

I got an optical CORDLESS mouse. Do not get one of these if you have small children. Rachel runs off with mine all the time - it makes me crazy. they have a surprisingly long range! ;)

Computer Addict?
My mouse has broken before too and I experienced the same anger and frustration. Plus the new mouse is always a challenge to get used to. But eventually you'll grow to love the new one just like the old one. At least you can blog again.
