Excellent post Cynthia. I really enjoy your insights and writing. So good to have you back. I just finished reading Bob Woodward's book, "Plan of Attack" and had to laugh at Bush's last comments to Woodward. When asked how he thought history would judge him, he said: "History? Doesn't matter, we'll all be dead then."

Isaiah, I seem to have some
very thoughtful and sympathetic readers, like you. Thanks.

Yes!

Wonderful, thoughtful post, as always.  You're my favorite blogger! (I'm glad you recommended yourself to me!)

One of your commentators got hold of the most perplexing irony:  those who will be hit the hardest by this blackest of snow jobs, are many of Bush's greatest supporters!

kingmi, thanks, I try to write everyday

fw, that is the irony, all those poor to middling
red state folks who think they will make out in the "ownership society" what a pile of crapola as Ariela would say.

Chris2303, I think Powell
may have been telling the truth in that he has traveled less than any other secretary of state in recent history. He may not actually have "seen" with his own eyeballs, (as opposed to seeing reports and stats of the devastation of Iraq.) I work with anthropologists and archaeologists and they have been in a state of apoplexy ever since Afghanistan, remember the Budhas of Baniyan? We have reaped a level of destruction of history and culture that is unmatched by any other nation.

Unfortunately, I think the Pres knows exactly what he's doing
Under the pretense of hastening an ownership society, Bush and his minions are creating an America that only caters to wealth and priviledge. He uses a blanket of snow to obscure the rape and pillage of the economy and the environment. What's worse, those who will suffer the most in the end are his biggest supporters.

Actually I think Colin Powell made the biggest gaff concerning the tsunami, when he went over there and said he'd never seen devastation on this scale.  In the meantime, Iraq is in pieces and people are still dying there, amid depleted uranium shells and levelled cities.  Then again, he's not the only person guilty of being a hypocrite.

Chris2303, Bush does not always
use those BIG distractions to his advantage. He f*%*ked up the tsunami thing by being a cheapskate then he had to scramble when world opinion came crashing in on him.

beachbelle, so true.
It's how they get through the day.

Cynthia

Is that bad news that he's created or bad news in general?  Because bad news in general (like the tsunami) is probably a God send for him (pun intended) because it covers up "his" bad news.

Anyway, enjoy the clean snow and I'll get back to the rain, just to make a change.

Welcome to New America! Sickening, actually. I remember one of my high school teachers mentioning that when social services and what we now call 'infrastructure' breaks down, our current society is doomed. And yes, snow is full of an infinite variety of shades, but try telling that to the powers that be.

Some would rather live in a constant state of white-out.
