ginnieb, I'm so depressed about America's
future, and I'm cynical enough to think that those folks I addressed in my post never even bothered to read, much less think about the issues. You don't have to when you KNOW GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE:-(

fw, at least in my lifetime
I saw people in government trying to get away with awful things, Wategate for example. But we had a system of checks and balances, and people eventually got found out and were prosecuted because we aere, in the end, a nation under the rule of law. Now I fear we are sliding into an abyss. Did you know Gonzales was the defending attorney for Enron? Yes, he helped those bastards who pilaged their workers pensions get completely off the hook. Ken Lay the Enron head guy is Bushes personal friend.

This is a terrific post Cynthia and even though you aren't getting comments from the Bushites hopefully they are reading this and maybe even thinking about what you've said...taking it in..and maybe..just maybe...that's a start. It's better than doing nothing.

Cyn - sometimes I wonder if everything I was taught to believe about
America has been a great big lie.
Gonzales may be Hispanic, but he's from Honduras, so he doesn't fall under my general "root for the Mexican (-American)" guidelines.

Well, see, I'm not entirely convinced that people aren't any brighter anywhere else in the world. Certainly we have our fair share of idiots in Britain, most of which are in favour for a compulsory biometric identification card, and other such Orwellian "traits". Even when it comes to the Iraq "war", although most people here know it's an expensive oil crusade, they also believe that Muslims are probably terrorists who want to blow us up. Too busy joking about Bush's ridiculous speeches and Bushisms, they fail to recognise him for what he is - the biggest and most dangerous terrorist in the world.
Hopefully that may act as some consolation - dumbness is rife over here, too.

Beachbelle, I felt bad after I wrote this post
knowing what a waste of time it would be and knowing not one of these folks would venture in to a discussion. When you "just believe" something is right, and "just believe" God is on your side, it is OK to torture, maim and kill the enemy. We are right. They are not human (whoever the "they" are at the moment). You can't have a discussion with someone who thinks in that way. So this was an empty exercise.

Chris, it is the stupity and blindness
that comes with being the biggest, fattest kid on the block. That's what we get with a president who grew up saturated in oil and who had never traveled beyond our borders.

Isaiah, You are more articulate
in this area, and as full-of-rage as I. But unfortunately we are just shouting at each other.

If I was a Christian, and therefore a Bush supporter(!), my only argument would be that since the U.S.A. has impunity from international laws anyway, it doesn't really matter who ends up in key positions within the government, as long as they "validate" me by believing in what I believe in. After all, should American soldiers ever become the subject of torture or other abuse as POWs, then there'd be enough propaganda and "evidence" to blow up another oil saturated country where terrorists live.
Another excellent post that sadly, probably won't get a logical and/or reasonable response from a Bush voter.

Amen, Cynthia!
This is a great post. You have really nailed the hypocrisy of this administration: they claim to support democracy and say they wish to spread it to other nations, but their actions undermine democracy in our own country. You give one egregious example of this hypocrisy of the many that could be given. This administration has eroded due process, the rights of religious and other minorities, the separation of church and state, openness in policy decisionmaking, integrity in elections, expression of diverse views and dissent... the list goes on and on. Thanks for your thought-provoking post. I doubt if any of those you are addressing bother to explain their thinking -- if they engaged in such reflection, they would expose, for themselves, the hypocrisy inherent in their beliefs and move beyond that thinking.
