We need more people like that German housekeeper in politics.
I wish I had her negotiating skills.

Beachbelle, We heard a lot of interesting
insider info from Kerry's housekeeper. She was very worried about him because he got so thin during the campaign, he was driving himself to the limit. To no avail.

kingmi, feeling powerless
seems like feeling helpless and that does not feel good to me.

Cynthia
Some of the coverage has been heavily biased toward the places were western tourists go but I think that is getting better.
I understand exactly how you feel. Interesting anecdote about the Kerry's housekeeper.

Cynthia, life is going through the motions for very intelligent and caring
people.  The more you learn the more there is to know.  The more you try the less effective you seem because of trying so hard.  The more we know about the less controllable does the world seem.  Maybe going through the motions is an acceptable alternative to trying to control everything.  Maybe trusting the spirit of people, and the divine plan is an acceptable alternative to our feelings of helplessness.  Maybe, as one guy told me, there's a hell of a lot of power in being powerless.
