Peace Through Development

Yes, I find it interesting that we have an agenda for global military action, ostensibly to fight the "war on terror", but we do not have an agenda for international economic development, which is needed to create the conditions for peace. Changes in IMF and World Bank policies would be a start in this direction.

Actually, we do have the resources for another Marshall Plan -- but we would have to write off all the bad loans based on debt racked up by speculative traders in order to finance it; and we would have do (as was done, but paid off handsomely with the Marshall Plan) borrow against future increases in productive capacity due to long-term investments in physical and human infrastructure.

But I'm with you on this. I believe that we have to secure peace through human and physical development -- not fire power and destruction.
