CL,
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes by H.T. Leslie- "The game of life is not so much in holding a good hand; as playing a poor hand well." Happy new year!

CunningLinguist,

If "God doesn't play dice" like Einstein says, maybe he likes a good hand of poker.  Makes you think, doesn't it, about the "glass half empty/half full" scenario?

Yes, I found a treat here, thank you, what luck I have.

Well you see, I am slow in making my way through the maze of people in Blogit, slow to discover the right buttons to push and all.

When you consider however I started out learning how to advance the spark on a Model "A" and then had to get out and crank it to life in the dead of winet, I know you will forgive my tardiness in finding you.

Never mind, as luck would have it, I have now found you and enjoyed every word. Thank youHappy New Year

I'm feeling a little woozy...I don't know what's going on here...Oh wait - your post made me think! I didn't recognize the whirring and pinging and panging in my head there for a second.  I tried erally hard to get a rental car for my trip today, and had the good luck of discovering a special - $49 for the whole weekend.  Funy how that works!  BTW, some friend of mine used to call me Eeyore.

Could be worse; you could be a 97-year-old woman who wins the lottery, but then find out that it's going to be doled out to you every 20 years for the next 200 years or something. On second thought, you couldn't be a 97-year-old woman. Nevermind.

I'll have to check that book out. It definitely seems to be dependent on the individual's mindset what kind of luck they have in their life.

Thanks for the nomination over at QuirkyAlone's place. I have a speech prepared, as luck would have it.

Thanks and Happy New Year to you, too. Let's hope the Patriots get... well... randomly occurring satisfying circumstances.

I am confident...
I will always have bad luck!  I will now go purchase a losing lottery ticket just to prove it!

Sometimes two people look at the same circumstances and one calls it good luck and the other calls it bad luck. The one who sees the good luck is lucky. I read a whole book on this called "The Luck Factor". So even when I'm down I'm up.

BTW, I nominated you for QuirkyAlone's most humorous blogger award
