fw, I had a similar experience
in Sunday school. It made no sense to me. Even as a litle kid. These people seemed divorced from reality.

Beachbelle, you see the magnitude
of the problem and how it effects people and their families for generations.

Telynor, thanks telling me something
about your personal history here. Most of the people I have known who classify themselves as devoutly religious (any religion will do, not just catholic) are hypocrites. I think it goes with the territory.

Very thought provoking indeed. I've learnt that simply howling at folks THOU SHALT NOT [insert activity here], but then never explaining
why inevitably leads to disaster. I get to see on my therapy days what destructive behavior leads to, as well as my own memories on the topic. My maternal parent and grandparents were fanatical Catholics -- but that didn't stop them from adultery, abuse and behavior that today would be viewed as sickening and vile. But oddly, those same people viewed me as a vile sickening creature because I was/am Jewish, and firmly turned my back on religion that required blind faith instead of compassion and learning. Yes, I know that not all nor most Catholics are like that, but that was my experience of them when I was growing up.

This is a thought-provoking post. I had a friend who would not let anyone babysit her children because of what a priest did to her. I think much has been hushed up about all of this

I got into this argument in Sunday school ...
all the youth sponsors were lamenting how young the kids start having sex nowadays, but feverently oppose sex education in the schools.
