I like the idea of a rating system, but I think blogs should be rated with regard to specific attributes rather than overall, because people's tastes are so subjective that what one blogger thinks is 5-star work, or whatever, another will think is a 2.5-star work. We could mitigate this problem somewhat by rating a post based on criteria like 1)quality of sentence structure; 2)quality of diction; 3)coherence and clarity of ideas; 4)profundity in thought (again this is subjective because not all blogs need to be profound to be enjoyable and good); 5)entertainment value; etc. Some of the criteria would only apply in certain blogs; like entertainment would matter much more in Fiction than it would in World, for example.

It's absolutely a good idea;
an additional notion that ought to be considered is CREATING MORE POTENTIAL READERS. There's no reason I can think of why Blogit doesn't offer a READ AND COMMENT ONLY subscription class. How do you see that?

maybe it could be done somewhat like it is on Ebay?
in the "feeback" or comments section you could check a box that denotes a certain amount of stars, like five for excellent and one for not so excellent. But there again, what one person things is a good read may not appeal to others, you know one mans(or womans) junk is another mans treasure.

Quirky
I think there are a multitude of qualifiers as to what makes a person think a post is good and I fail to see how blogit could incorporate that. I think it should be left as is.

Void-is
Such choices are very subjective aren't they. It would be best kept simple . How do you rate this post on a scale of 1-5. Much would be determined by the type of people who sign up

I've thought about this as well...
but I'm not sure how a ranking system would work. Would people vote, say from 1 to 10? In any case, how does one seperate the style and mastery of the language from the content? For example, I may like what someone is saying but think the writing is bad. Or I may love someone's style but totally disagree with the content... It's a hard one, isn't it?

The idea has merit
Under the current system you have already voted even though you may be hugely disappointed by what you see. It would be interesting to see how such a system panned out. I take Gyspyred's point that people could be boycotted but that can happen now.

I agree with Gypsy, however maybe if they could somehow keep the
clicks and the rankings separate, that may help?

Quirky...
Hard to tell. I don't really want alot of people who might decide they don't want my rankings high due to a personal issue to determine my ranking. That can happen the way you're talking about. At least the clicks are unbiased.

Great idea...maybe then some people will stop hating me for getting
high ranks for being a click whore.
