Go to I WRITE, THEREFORE I AM
- Add a comment
- Go to JUST DO IT?? ..................... Is it really that easy for you???
Quriky: it actually is that easy, although I must admit the Yoda scenario is simplistic - the difference between trying and doing is not quite so clear cut, rather like "when will doctors and lawyers stop practicing and start doing?"
The problem is mindset. Mindset comes from what is happeninig around us, especially in our younger years. We learn that we should not fail, and how bad failure is. We get fed up with not getting desirable results, and we start blaming ourselves for not getting it "right". Like your 100 comments and little response (a couple of posts up) you did something to get response and nothing happened. That's not YOUR failure: it's just that there are fewer people interested enough to act or react to your material.
If you think YOU get little comment - take a look at soe of my posts - I think my "record" is soething like 13 comments! And, I took your advice (back at my first post) to read and comment as well as post
It's all part and parcel of the same thing: Keep doing (practicing, trying) and count each failure as finding another way that didn't work.

Quirky,
Good idea. I'll try this. I found a book yesterday called "Becoming a Writer", published in 1934 by Dorothea Brande, on overcoming the psychological obstacles to writing, rather than the technical/sales aspects. I have trouble setting goals, because somehow the inner and outer lives feel like an organic growth, rather than something I'm willing myself. But that's not to say that there doesn't need to be more action to facilitate the growth. I don't know.

When I saw the title of this post, I had this flash - Star Wars - Yoda - "Try? there is no try. There is DO and there is DO NOT" (not quite the complete quote - I keep getting one of my tahers interfering with the actual quote - which was along the same lines, but long before Star Wars)

Alf,
Yes, it's all there for the taking, if we only try. Thanks for reading.

Quirky...
This is great advise. I have done a similar excercise on a writing tablet since I am typing challenged. Amazing what knowledge lies hidden in our own brains...
