My daughter fell down a flight of stairs ...
she was just learning how to walk. We turned our heads for a few seconds and she disappeared before we knew it, crawled all the way up, tried to stand and fell all the way down. Luckily, she laughed and wanted to do it again.

Symph,
Unfortunately there really is nothing that can be done about sleep walking. I was doing it growing up and still do occasionally. I'd definitely get a stair guard just to be safe. Hope things work out for your mother and she recovers soon.

Sleepwalking is scary stuff, but
there isn't a whole lot that you can do about it other then making her surroundings safer. Hopefully things will get better for you. I fight with my sister also. No matter what, she will always be your blood. Give in and give her a call.

roofpig is correct
My older son is a sleep walker. When he was about 2 or 3 he opened the frount door to our apartment and walked down the steps. At 3 in the morning I'm woke up by a loud banging on my door ....by a neighbor ....ushering my child back into the apartment. I had to put locks on the door ...higher than he could reach.

From what I've heard, Sym, there's not much that can be done about sleepwalking. It's more a psychological thing than anything else. The gate on the stairs is a good idea, though.
Hope everything gets better for you. :::hug:::
