There was a song, back in the early 80's (I believe)
It was called "muscle" or something. There was a line in the song that went like this..
"I don't care if he's young or old.(Just make him beautiful.)"

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with calling a man beautiful. But it does seem odd to call a woman handsome. Not sure why it doesn't work both ways for me.

Maybe a convention, language style,
associations, word-gender etc.
For eg., some languages have
more gender sensitive words.

I have no idea, but I guess beauty is associated with fragility and femininity?? I know that when someone called my ex "beautiful" and I called him "pretty," he didn't care much for it. Hhhmmm...
