The Elephant in the roomis the one we never talk about
Well, Sy, I can understand having a weight, I've balloned up and down the scale for years. Right now I'm falling by the wasteside. Durning the summer I havd a determation to lose weight and I lost some, but not my target weight. That's the thing I hate about moving, starting all over again. So once I can afford it, I have to find a gym and get motavated. To be quite honest that seems the only way to go for myself. Take care of yourself and tell that person inside that thinks your a big fat elephant to piss off. lol.

Ok, then cheat on the easy way.
Shrink your stomach.
Buy slimming tea from the
supermarket or pharmacy.
Follow instructions on drinking.
It reduces appetide.
I don't think a single mum
should be doing so much exercise
apart from the housework & other chores.

More fruit and veggies,
water and slimming teas
should do the trick nicely.
Too much exercise makes you tired.

SYMPHONY
The best plan I've ever found is The T-Factor.
With this plan you can eat as much as you want, as long as you stay in the fat gram range, which for women is 20-40 grams a day. You can even cheat a little once in a while and not have serious consequences.
The T-Factor book is by Dr. Martin (???) Kahun, Kalhun? something? It starts with a K.
My other best advice I can give is don't go for more than 4-5 hours without eating something. (except while your sleeping, of course.) If you allow yourself to get too hungry, you will want to eat and eat and eat.
Cereal sweetened with Splenda and some fruits help to fight my cravings for sugar.

Sym,
For me, eating healthy is balancing the carb, protein and fat ratios...sort of a "modified Zone" approach...you have to cut down on sweets, breads and such...eat more vegetables for your carbs...and exercise...it's a lot more fun to not watch what you eat but look at what happens...lol. To get into your fave trousers you have to "exercise" some self control, girl...LOL...good luck.

thank you so much for the advice.....I think I do know why I comfort eat...because it seems to happen more when the children are in bed because I am bored and because when things get stressed...oh and espeically when I am on my women monthlys!, I skip breakfast and lunch and just really binge on snacks through the day and then when the kids are in bed...I will eat a dinner but not healthy just a quick thing as it is late...and that is pretty much my awful diet right now......I need to eat sensibly

Symp--as you know I like big women; but thje way to reduce and stay
reduced is to eat basically what you always eat, your favorite foods, etc, but cut the portions. If you consume fewer calories than you will find that over time, you will regain your correct weight. And you might add more fruit and vegetables.

The best advice I can give...
Is for you to make the decision to do this for yourself. All the weight loss crazes aside, the best thing to do is look at why you take such comfort in eating what you do and try to fix that first. Otherwise you'll continue to depend on it. I was 358 pounds at my heaviest 4 years ago. I took a long hard look at why I got that way and what I could change. 178 pounds less now, I can say the one thing that made a difference was my attitude.

Sym - check out the South Beach Diet book. It's not really a "fad diet" like people make it out to be; it's a change in your eating habits. And it allows room for those "comfort foods" when you need them because you'll have the knowledge of what to do to get back on track after those little "cravings." It's really worked for me, even throughout the holiday season so far. Just be sure to read the whole book so you can understand the diet rather that just doing what they tell you (there's lots of room for improvising).

Tips from The Dr. Phil Tv program
This helped me.
1. Use a smaller( desert size ) plate - filled up it will fool you in to thinking you are eating the same amount as a normal size plate.
2. Section off the plate ( in your mind ) into 4th's Put meat in one section - pasta or potatos or rice, etc. in one section and vegies in the other two.
3. Take smaller bites and put the fork or spoon down in between each bite. It will take longer, but when you feel full -STOP EATING
4. There is no writen law that you have to clean your plate - always leave two or three bites of everything.
Drink lots of water - it will fill you up and helps to flush food through your system faster.

Hi Symphony,
Go directly to this website http://www.healthcentral.com/fitorfat/aboutfitorfat/aboutfitorfat.cfm
and click on the menu on the left hand side.
Covert gives excellent advice. And remember don't diet! Eat sensibly instead, eating breakfast lunch and supper. Skipping any of these will lead to binge eating. Healthy snacks are also good, they include fruits and veg and low fat yogurts and such.
Reduce your fat where possible! We eat way too much fat. Recommended amount is 30% of our daily intake, or about 65 grams per day for women.
And, yes, exercise. I always recommend doing something you enjoy. And I always recommend just walking. It's so good for you. The key is to be consistent. About 4-6 days a week of aerobic activity.
