go with what works for you Symph

Every child is different and I'm a firm believer in going with your instinct on what works for your child. My son climbed out of his crib at 9 months, head first onto the floor. Three hours in emergency later, I was off to buy him a bed. He loved it and after a few nights of "oh cool, I can get out", he stayed put.

Trust your instincts Symph, that's what makes you a great mom

I was hoping you would comment as you are an excellent mum! no, my mum don't feel hungry, she said she was in to much pain to eat anywaybut I am so happy that she is fine.....thank you so much!

I am glad you like the decorating...hope you can see it properly

I think he's fine...

Riley's been in a bed for almost four months now and she just turned 18 months old.  We had to put her in it because she was trying to climb out of her crib!  Yikes!  It'll just take him a couple days to get settled, then he'll be fine.  :)

Glad your mom is ok.  Hope she isn't getting too hungry!  :)

The decorating is nice!  Good job!

Symph,
we actually put Rachel's mattress right on the floor - so if she does fall out - it's only about a 6 inch drop.

Yeah, I know the feeling,
Lainey is my only one (not for lack of trying. lol.), and my husband thought she would have a bottle forever.  It was more me than her that wanted her to keep it.  I wanted her to stay a baby. She'll be 3 in January.  Not a little baby anymore, but she'll always be MY baby.  I tell her that all the time.

maybe... thank you ever so much for sharing

its quite sad knowing he is growing up..lol...but I did not want to throw my daughters old bed out...it made sense him sleeping in it, but after him kept crying lastnight, I wondered if it was too early...but after reading all these wonderful comments I feel more confident about it...he does have a rail but it dont go all the way down the side of the bed..so it is a bit of a worry, but thank you

posted by _Symphony_ on November 30, 2004 at 8:12 AM | link to this | reply

I put Lainey, (my 2 1/2yr old) in a toddler bed when she was the same age.  I didn't have a rail for her so the first night, she fell out!  The bed was so low to the ground that she didn't even wake up. LOL.  I just picked her up and put her back in.  The next day I bought her a rail, and then we got her a big (double) bed b/c she moves around so much that she was too cramped in the little bed. (the big one has a rail ).  I guess my point is, even if he falls out, he'll be fine.  Don't worry so much.  You're a good mom.

symph,
glad to hear your mum is doing well...as for putting your little darling in a big boy bed I think you did the right thing, especially with the railings. Some kiddo's are just ready for things a little earlier than others. I think I put my son into his regular bed when he was about 2 1/2, but he was a late bloomer and slept with me a lot. Hey, as long as he sleeps do what works! lol.  red

symph-
I answer all calls for mothers! lol. I think it's fine. And once you get him to sleep in there calmly, please take my son and make him sleep in his bed. We're never going to get another baby with our middle child sleeping literally in the middle of us! lol. Best of luck!

As long as you've taken precaushions
that he can't fall out  or hurt himself, I see no problem of putting him in the old bed. It's called furgal or being thrifty. Why throw out a perfectely good bed or even store it untill he is bigger?  This way both get something new.  How did she like her new bed?

smyphony

i'm going to ignore that you only asked MOTHERS for advice.

juliet got her own toddler bed just a few weeks ago, with a plastic frame shaped like a VW Bug!  it's sooo cute.  she loves playing in it and so does sofia (who has been in a  full-sized (that's a specific term for bed sizes in the States) bed since she was almost three.  sofia stayed with us until she was about two and a half.  She never really had her own bed we amost never used my nephew's old crib.  we actually used it more like a toddler bed by taking down one of the gates.

juliet does fall out, but onto soft pillows.  she stays in it for a few hours, wakes up in the midnight hour and nurses back to sleep.  most of the time.  tg

I don't think he's too young.
Rachel went into her big bed when she was 20 months. We had to boot her out of the crib so Emily could have it. She did great. We didn't even put a rail on.
