            - Go to About time: hands-free phones in cars may become law in CA

                    Huh?

You mean to tell me, Molly, that we can, through legislation, regulate (i.e. , ticket and fine) cell phone users who police observe using phones in contravention of the proposed law, but we can not regulate far more dangerous behaviors through similiar legislation? Pray tell, why?

Ban the damn things. We can't regulate eating or fixing hair or making out in cars; we can and should ban a new and growing habit that is a known risk to safe driving.
I don't advocate banning much but,
like many others, I've had it with careless phone-talking drivers.

                    Ridiculous

On a daily basis, I see people driving with their knees so they can eat in their cars, I see people fixing their hair and applying makeup while looking at the vanity mirror, I see people reading, I see people working on PDA's and laptops, I see people scribbling notes on the dashboard.  And we're going after cell-phones?
What's next, banning passengers to completely prevent conversation from interfering with a driver's concentration.
Stop basing legislation, which applies to the masses, on the incompetence and inabilities of a few.
