You believe you are talking to God when you pray. If there is no God then all you are doing is focusing you energies, or at least that is what one should be doing. I think there are those who pray without focusing, but that says they are doing it wrong. If you pray and all you are doing is saying 'God help me and give me stuff' and so on, and are not thinking about why you need those things or what can be done to achieve your goals, then you are just being petty and most likely will gain nothing from it. When done in the right state of mind prayer and spells are very much the same thing. The only different really is where one puts one's faith.

Kooka -
For me, as you said, as long as one tries to do the right thing (which includes loving), it doesn' t really matter what one believes in. Ultimately, one gets to where one is supposed to go.

Kooka, I've said that all along...so-called "spells" are just focused
thought...prayers are slightly different for the fact that you are addressing God. All in all, it works on quantum physics...like attract likes.

That is exactly what spells are about. So many people don't understand. The focusing of one's positive energy is what makes things happen. Interesting post. I'd like to read more like this.

That was the one thing I strayed myself away from - asking for things in prayers. Most of my prayers nowadays are more or less gratitude for things. Occassionally I will pray for someone else, but I very rarely pray to "get" anything.
