What were we talking about? Oh yeah..
Krispie Kreams and kops....
The trouble isn't remembering 1968, it's remembering my daughters' friends' names and my schedule now.
How do you politely let people know their introductions are for naught, nor that even though you might remember you worked with someone for five years, you can't recall their name?
PS:for fun, google up terraserver 6.0, goto "advanced search", then "address", do that, then choose "Urbanareas". See your own backyard probably!

SKY5, thanks for being a new reader and commentor. I shall sleep
well tonight and shall do so before any far off gunfire begins, which might keep me up again.

Temple, I have missed you and I'm so sorry that you haven't been well.
So very sorry.
Krispy Cremes are doughnuts, which policemen supposedly love to the point of attraction ( not distraction) and so, it would attract them to my home, to protect me more. Maj knows these things. I'm glad that your neighborhood is better, mine is, too, really. Better than it was in that post that Maj linked to from November of last year.
Thanks for stopping by, even though you don't feel well. Please take care of yourself, for me.

Wiley, I'm the leader of the pack, shall always have a pack now that I'm
old and gray and haven't practiced much with my little American gun. We Americans believe in gun control, so I should go learn to control it a little better.
Dangerous old women are NOT the ones to just let some fellow bang in through the door. Or, we are and then we say, "Sic 'em", to our pack, while we cooly pull our gun from our clay covered apron. That's a lie. I rarely put it in there, just when the neighborhood feels creepy at midnight when I go out to get the mail that I forgot in the mailbox along the road. The dogs go, too.

I'm trying to figure out how a Krispie Creme sign makes your place
crook proof....hmmm..... Okay sweetest of Abuelitas, I'm so behind on you, and I can't for the life of me figure out how it happened, except I haven't been here much. I've been too sick to do much except work and sleep, so as I get better I will catch up. I miss reading you. I saw this and wanted to say that you are the cutest thing in the entire world I love you to pieces. I'm glad you are okay and I'm sorry you were scared, but the visual of you and the beer and all the doggies made me (after the fact) giggle. Having police and helicopters all over the place is a scary, that was like my old neighborhood every night and my kitties just watched them whirrrrrr around like big bright birdies. I send you quiet, deep sweet dream filled nights (for you and the doggies) and I hope your success has been going well. Take care of yourself and I am thinking of you.

I laughed when you mentioned the walls!
We had a little shoot-out a couple hundred feet from our front door one evening when I was a kid. My mom and my sister started out onto the totally exposed front porch to get a better look. My dad and I yelled for them to stay inside, so they did...behind the screen door.
OK, we won't all get in a UHaul caravan to come get you. Plant some "crown of thorns" behind the nopales as a backup, maybe some nice ocatillo, and put a Krispie Cremes sign in your window. Instant crook-proof! And tell your Weedwhaking Wildguy not to cut down the thorny stuff...

maj, when the cops put pressure on one part of the city, trying to clean it
up somewhat, then the criminals have to find new houses. The landlord next door blocked some scary dudes who wanted to move in next door a few weeks ago and I was ever so grateful. The little marijuana dealing family on the corner moved out and a nice Mexican family has moved in, squaresville and it's just the house across the street that is shaky, really. We have no street lights, which I like and always look for, midnight black streets as the others are over lighted and so unnatural.
So, the neighborhood is going downhill, but just slowly enough that I think that I have about two or three more safe years here. I have been in drug dealing alley and lived there for two years about twelve years ago and so, I like this street, quieter, less gunfire by 2000 % and almost no police activity, tho' their mid-town headquarters are just seven blocks away, so they do cruise by on their way to other places. I'm in a 'quick response' area and I like that.
This house has great gardens front and back, lots of grandchildren and dog room and no one can see into the house from the street, the nopales cacti block the view entirely. The house is over one foot thick adobe, good for bullet absorption, so I chose it carefully.
North of here is going downhill fast, but mostly staying north of here. I'm fine. Life is good.
Last night was not a good night for some young Romeo to be out scratching at his girlfriend's window, however, if there were any out there doing that around here. Not the same as the old world.

bb, that's what happens when you move close to family, brothers become
keepers again. I'm a 'doors wide open' person during the day, when the dogs are running in and out the front door, barking at passersby, but it's been too cold for open doors anymore. Having lived alone for about fifteen years or so, I have the routine down pretty well, windows shut at night, dogs everywhere, see faces before opening doors and answering the phone in Spanish to keep down unwanted calls, people give up on me, mostly, ??Que que'???
When I hear noises at night and get afraid or a little paranoid, I shout out, "Bruno get the damned shotgun and flashlight, it's your turn to kill the burglars. Come on over here dogs." That makes me feel better, tho' I'm sure it's a useless exercise in bravado.
Sure do hope that your neighborhood proves marvellously boring and predictable and friendly, beachbelle.

B, I used to think that if the neighborhood was slipping, you hung tough.
I hardly think so anymore. It can, however, be hard to distinguish people who conveninetly use ill-lit residential neghborhoods to escape versus local yokels.
Tell that extended family of yours that if they want to taste Abuellita's goodies or party at her place anymore, that they need to chip in (no pun intended) and get you a stake in a nice little place that has a big dog yard. Otherwise, you're setting up a gated community of one and they'll have to buy a membership.
By the way, nice canine posse !!

This sounds like a long night for you. My new neighborhood is not rough but my brother has been visiting and telling me to make it more secure. Glad the art work is going smoothly

sadhanm, I am so cold right now that I cannot sleep. If I put my feet in
cool water and then drank cold milk, I would be up until I warmed up. It is so cold here in my city right now. It will be around 47 degrees Farenheit and to me that is hibernation weather.
Now, if I had a huge bath tub, which I don't have, just a shower, I would fill it with very hot to boiling water and sleep in there until it cooled down. Then I'd wake up and refill it and sleep again.

FOR SLEEP
Try this: wash your feet in cold water (not ice water). Dry up properly. Take a glass of cold milk, drink it slowly. And just go to sleep. You will have a sound one.
