BlogitStaff Response

Just to clarify, your blog link will always take you to your blog (online column or diary). But the text that shows up on top of your blog will be your most recent post...since your posts keep moving down as you add more recent content. A blog is the overall container for each post that you write under a different heading and time stamp.

Permalink -- short for permanet link -- always takes you to a specific entry (or post) on your blog that you want to point someone to rather than your blog in general where you may have posted many more entries since your last post.

Permalink also works for a specific comment that you want to link to or point someone to. If you just pointed them to the post, and there had been a dozen or more comments since you last read the post, then it would be hard for them to figure out which comment you were referring to.

By linking to the permalink the person checking out what you wanted them to read would click thru to exactly the post or comment you were referring to.

Hope that helps explain this.

Thank you.

is short for Permanent Link To The Present Blog.  If you would notice, your blogs are pushed down on your blog page every time you blog.  Eventually, when your page reaches the maximum number of blogs, your other blogs are relegated to another page.  In other words, your blog entitled -- for example -- "My Special Weekend" may be on page 1 now, but later on depending on the frequency of your updates, may appear on page 2.  So what if you would like to make a reference to "My Special Weekend" from another website in a way that is permanent?  Herein is the usefulness of the PermaLink.  No matter where your particular blog maybe (page 1, page 2 or page 3), it will always have one permanent link.

To get the PermaLink for a particular blog, do this:

1.  Go to that blog
2.  Click on Permalink
3.  The permanent link to that blog will now appear on the location bar of your browser.

What is the usefulness of PermaLink for a read-members-only-site like Blogit?  Look for my Tech page and see what I did with my permalinks.
