I've heard many say what you wrote so eloquently, myself included. My reasoning centers around a show I saw on the History channel. It talked about how rich Bagdad and its history. Bagdad is the richest spot on the planet. The United States has slipped a little in being known as the world's super power. Capture Bagdad and you have a monopoly over the entire world and you're back on top. The country that uses the most oil is the United States. But I'm no political Science major or minor. It just adds up this way to me.
