The pain makes up for the fact,
that you'll look cool ,
once you've mastered the art.

LOL Quirky - I tried rollerblading for the first time back in January. What a dismal effort. I panicked every time I let go of my son's shoulders (I was learning with his rollerblades). My boys were doubled over with laughter, especially when they dragged me to the top of the driveway, turned me around and let me go!

close ain't the word
let's say that if you had a 5 o'clock shadow after that incident you'd be clean shaven, as smooth as a baby's butt.

Alf,
I've seen it--thankfully not on my own body--and it's so NOT pretty. A friend tumbled down a slighter smaller hill while skating with me...

alf,
Hey, that's more than some old rockers get for their concerts, so I guess that's not so bad. Bet you'd just LOVE to see what triple-digit road rash looks like, huh?

That is a scary story...I'm glad you are alive. I would have paid good money to watch it happen though.

Whew!
How frightening, but exhilerating too. Sounds like something I would have done a long time ago - not now though - too smart, or scared. :)

canine,
I was with a group of 15 people who had already zoomed down the hill and skated off down the road, and if I took my skates off they would not have waited an hour for me to walk down. How would I get home? And then there is that pride thing I was talking about...Also, I truly thought I could brake slowly down the hill and it would be okay. Well, I lived, so I guess it turned out okay.

You took on this kind of activity....
while you were at an age to distinguish between the sane and the foolish? You're a brave girl!
I can't imagine how you must have felt to come to a stop with no broken bones and missing teeth!

Tannoo, ooooh, ouch!!
Actually I eventually did learn how to go downhill without endangering my life, and skated at least 4 times a week for many years, until I got tired of it.
