I think you are a good person, for what it's worth. I understand your feeling that you CAN NOT believe in god. Personally, I CAN NOT feel guilt. Never could. I try to explain it to people and they pooh-pooh the idea as nonsense, or vanity, or worse. I'm probably lucky not to be in jail or dead, but I'm not particularly violent or brave and stealing has never seemed worth the risk. I became a christian partly because I saw my foreman killed on a construction site and my less than valliant heart told me to get some insurance.

Kooka -

You're absolutely right. There is no punishment for a non-believer. That is not something a loving God would do.

A comment and a poem
I'm with you Kooka. I can't see any logical reason why God would punish a good person simply because he's not a believer. How could God be any greater than he is just becuase someone happens to believe in him. Why should he care? If he's just, a man's actions have to trump his faith. I wrote a poem that has a similar theme. I'll post it here just for fun.

Ode to Ingersoll

The humble Man of Reason lifts a light that shines,
A towering taper, a light sublime,
Still undimmed by beliefs unclear,
Unfettered by ghosts or foolish fears,
He strains to light the holier climes.

What is the fountain of his mind?
Why does his heart spark a flame to be kind?
Can we mock his tender deeds? Or find reason to berate,
The humble Man of Reason?

Benevolent action trumps belief each time,
We review our lives and try to find,
The slippery key to heaven’s gate.
Do we wait for god or plot our own fate?
Clearly, the strength of a life well lived enshrines,
The humble Man of Reason.

Hope you liked it.

I love this:
I have no fear of hell because I know I am a good person.  -Kook_lives.
