4th amendment

I agree with you that the patriot is peculiarly unpatriotic and should be rescinded but that’s not likely as the party that came up with it controls both branches of the legislature came up with it. See. the thing is, it has that great name. Who could be against patriotism?

The legislation in and of itself violates the constitution and should never have been passed. How do we change a law that violates the fourth amendment be rescinded with out the consent of the government?

Please let me know if you know of an answer

You also need to see that the Patriot Act is really just a first step. As soon as another events such as 9/11 happens, it will give Bush and his crew all the fuel they need to get more harsh laws passed that will limit rights even more. I honestly could see all of this leading to martial law being declared.

And the idea that we will get all our rights back when this is over does not really work. First off there will never be a true end to the war of terrorist. There will always be terrorist some where in the world no matter how hard you fight it. It is not completely hopeless, we have the chance to take control (But Bush is not doing that at all) and keep the number of terrorist down and make it all the more difficult for them. We also need to look at history and see that in the past whenever people have so freely given away their rights it has been much harder than expected to get them back.

Steelerman
Your mindset is what scares me the most.

As far as I know (Although if I have made it to some list i won't know until the come for me) I have not lost rights to the Patriot Act as of yet. I could at any moment for just stepping out of line though. And when the next attack happens (I have no doubt there is something coming real soon and there is no way to stop it) Bush will get more laws passed to take away more of our rights when ever he wishes. We are getting closer and closer to having martial law forced on us, which will not stop the problem. The Patriot Act as it stands now allows for too relaxed of control. Just by stating that I feel there will be more attacks could put me on the lists as being involved in terrorist activities, when all I have done is speak my mind.

I will never understand the attitude of 'I is not affecting me, so why should I worry'. How self centered can you get? If may not affect you right now, but it is just the first step in a very dark path. If we do not stand up now and say it is wrong, it will be all the harder to get our rights back in the future when more have been taken from us.

Steelerman, you are showing just how blind and self-centered Americans are. I am not proud that there are so many in this country who do not care one bit if other people loose their right as long as those people get to have their rights. It is just sad

Now I did talk about real rights that I have lost, not that you read the post or gained a thing from it.

I don't feel I have lost any of my rights but I do understand the concerns
of people over certain areas in the Patriot Act. To be honest I haven't studied into it that deep but I will.

Why Are You...
so concerned about this? It has not taken any rights from myself. Or is it that you are worried about this due to some guilt about something?

I don't like Kerry, but I figured if nothing else at least he could reel us in from the brink of insanity that Bush has taken us to. Now we will just jump off the brink with Bush still running things and hope that the fall does not kill us all. I truely doubt Kerry could have been a good president, but folllowing up Bush it does not take a good president to do a better job.

It is sad day when our two choices for president are Bush and Kerry. I am even starting to think Gore might have been a better choice than either of those two. If we knew what Bush wa going to do, I can not help but wonder how many independents would have backed up Gore. I was thinking Bush was going to be the better choice over Gore. Although I was not about to vote for either one of them. I even was defending Bush up until he showed his true colors and started to make it very clear he was just out for his own.

I'm with you Kooka

We threw the baby out with the bath water. Without even giving clear definition of what a terrorist is. This could easily be the governments weapon against free speech in the future.

I do not like Bush any more than you do, But in my opinion, we are better off with him than with Kerry.
