Nice little story.
Kids are so sweet when they sing earnestly. That is the correct title. Tim's natural father was Tug McGraw, the baseball player, who died earlier this year. It's a nice tribute. Your wife probably knows their story, which is an interesting one, too. My husband and daughter listen to country, but when they leave the car, I usually switch to classic rock.

I've heard this -- don't know the title
my wife listens to c-w a lot -- heard it a lot on the trip to CO -- had our 8 yr old granddaughter with us and she got to singing the song -- so when we got to Rocky Mtn Natl Park and up at the visitors center at the top -- she could really say that she'd been "Rocky Mountain Climbin'".

Live Like You Were Dying, by Tim McGraw. At least, I think that's the title. It's the song for his father, Tug.
