I agree that Saddam needed to be dealt with that it was all done wrong.

We are right now in bad shape because the way it was handled. I just hope there is a way to fix the problems.

though I prefer peace, I do think that a case against saddam was plausible.  Bush's father made a tactical error, to encourage the kurds and the sunnis to rise up and not offer meaningful help, but not invading iraq was probably the right thing.  I never understood why Clinton didn't pressure the UN once Saddam booted the inspectors out.  That alone was technically grounds for UN military action.

That aside, the tactical mistakes made by Bush/Rumsfeld are simply awful.  There was no plan for what to do after Baghdad fell. None.  And to divert the resources away from Afghanistan was disgraceful -- unless of course they really do have osama and are simply waiting for November 1 to show him in a Pakistani jail.  But even then Afghanistan is in chaos, too, and remains un-secured. The troops do not have what they need in either country to do their jobs, and that is the fault of the administration, not Kerry as one Senator discussing money, which was given to the military anyway.  Billions of dollars --- for overpriced fuel courtesy of Halliburton?  For private contractors who then tell soldiers how to treat prisoners?  And then you go and blame the troops, either for being too efficient in taking saddam down or for not doing their jobs when they get orders higher up?  Whatever Kerry is, Bush is clearly not interested in the well-being of the servicemen and women there now.

It's also embarrassing since the real immediate threats are from the other "axis of evil" countries -- Iran is trying to get nukes and the North Koreans have them and these pose dangers to American allies.  I would not have been in favor of a miliatary strike against either, but both of these problems were more pressing than Iraq, where inspectors were on the ground.  But of course, justification was easier to manufacture against Iraq.

Bad bad decisions.  incompetent is too kind a word. tg

Osterages

It's the same as an osterage sticking it's head in the sand....waiting for it all to go away......

Senior Bush ( the story I heard) was ready to finish it off - but was told by top military officials  - TO BACK  IT OFF !!!!  That this ( then or now) is not the correct time to figh this fight. I call that enough intelegence to at least lissen to the people who put him into office in the first place. Junor's tatictics seem to be - to be the bullie on the block  - to vindicate the wrong - done to Daddy. To so puff him self up to be better Bush - and do what Daddy could not.

This seems to me to be a personal problem that Junor has.......and that.........we the  people of the United States should have never been placed in the middle of iit.
