- Go to Presidentail Debates Are Unfair...

Those are certainly points I've never thought about. Interesting perspective. But then again, anyone who seeks the office of President should be prepared for situations such as debates, and should handle themselves in a "presidential" manner. They know what they're getting into. Though without question you are right about no one ever really being prepared for it. TBG - I live in Texas, and I have to say I've never seen anything excellent or articulate out of him!!

good point about incumbent debaters. But a coupla things:
when bush ran for governer of Texas and then sought re-election his debate performaces were both regarded as excellent and articulate. The man who is President now seems to have changed or been altered.
Kerry has been put on the defensive throughout the campaign. he's had to defend his voting record and even his Vietnam experience.
Many incumbents do look bad. Carter did. But Clinton did fine with his debates with Dole. And Reagan after looking poorly in the first debate against Mondale, did great after that and of course avalanched him.

I think you mean "articulate" and not "prolific". Anyway, it's a nice little blog.

MiaE, I can understand your points and I do agree, but
Bush has never been a great speaker. That's not really something I hold against him, but I do have many issues with the fact that he couldn't answer many questions nor could he or did he have any solid defense to the rebuttles. Without going into my personal opinions about his actions as president, I do agree he's under a lot of pressure. I can't imagine how nervous either of them must have been or will be in future debates. Also, one must keep in mind that it IS a debate and that's what they're there to do. I think as far as debating in a civil, mature manner, they both did quite well.

I can't wait to see Kerry in office too...
And I agree with you he'll have a difficult time handling it. The pressure, the intensity, the madness of office -- all unfair... but the debates are essential. Although I do not like the idea that each canidate can ask only rhetorical questions -- this seems a bit too much.

I'd probably sniff cocaine too if I was President of the United States. I might even lay in bed all curled up in a ball, just a crying for the sake of feeling sorry for myself.

We Americans are lucky that the presidential debates give us a chance to get rid of the Cocainer-in-Chief before he kills and maims too many more young American men (and Iraqis of all ages).
