I don't sleep "normally" due to ...
Hep.C and advanced cirrhosis. It is a common complaint of most "Heppers". I sleep in cat naps of two and three hours, up for two or three, back to sleep again. It is exausting in of itself. However, it allows me time with myself and God. I read the Bible, Contemplative writers and write myself. At first glance, it may not seem like a rich life, but I feel richer and more blessed and at peace than ever in my entire life. How many people can, by God's grace, say that?

I sleep like the proverbial log ...
I love reading before sleeping, but really I don't actually need to do that to set me snoozing ... the lights go off and so do I. The Rogue is the same :). This could well be because we don't have children yet ('though we are practising lots ;) ) so I'm sure our turn for sleepness nights will come :) xxx.

Did you write this, or did I?!
I don't sleep well, either. I average about four tossing and turning hours of sleep every night. Yuck. I've decided that while I have children at home, I am just not meant to sleep!

Symphony - I usually fall asleep while reading at night - that it is a sure way for me to fall asleep - give me a chance to read and a semi-reclined position and I am out... I'd rather be reading most times, but I usually fall asleep quickly. I am sorry you cannot sleep much. I could give you a bunch of ideas ...

I know what you mean...for some time now ive been sleeping very lightly... if i dont visit the toilet so many times at night i wake up with sharp pains in my tummy... so im waking up around 5 or 6 times at night... apart from the times i awake from the phone, or someone walking into the room or the cat crashign herself into the door so i let her in and since i started work i have to wake up really early, which is something i havent done since i started college 4 years back....

It depends for me... if im tired then im a deep sleeper but on normal days i sleep lightly. wake up about 4 or 5 times to go to the bathroom and then sleep again and i can hear conversations in my sleep and I awake the second someone walks into my room... especially if im sleeping and the cat is sleeping next to me and someone tries to take her, the moment they put their hand out to pick up the cat, I wake up and stop them LOL!

I am also a light sleeper.
I to think it has a lot to do with being a mother. I hear the slightest stirring from my son's room and I am up and fully awake ( he has nightmares sometimes). Unless you get a live in nanny or something, restless nights are here to stay...

Sorry to break this to you Symphony but...
Motherhood (and sometimes fatherhood, lol) forever changes your sleep habits.

There's a part of your mind that never shuts off or totally relaxes. Instinct I suppose, but it surely becomes exhausting, especially when it continues through the teen years (Especially then!) and beyond. For me, a decent night's rest is guaranteed by knowing my three little chickadees are safe and settled...somewhere. :) A warm bath and good book finish the process.

It takes me forever to go to bed, but when I get there I can sleep through anything - literally. Remember the hurricane we had all those years ago? A tree fell down right in front of my bedroom window and smashed into the glass. I slept through it. When my kids woke me and said "Mum, there's a tree coming through the window", I thought it was some kind of joke. If you can sleep through that, you can sleep through anything.

My sleep schedule is odd... between 10pm and 4am I'm a very sound sleeper. Once it hits 4 or so I don't sleep so soundly. It's not as bad as waking up when a pin drops, but it's certainly not "death to the world" type of sleep.
