Sorry for not commenting earlier
Like everyone else has said, there's no set way to reach the "hot spots," Blogit is a dynamic community whose tastes change everyday. You'll make yourself crazy if you try to keep up with it, so just post what you feel like and if it happens to strike a cord your blog will rise. It's really not all it's cracked up to be; the best part is that you get more comments, which is where the real value lies.

Horus, I've only been here a couple of days! I don't any
'secrets of the trade' nor do I occupy a 'hot spot'. As far as the much ballyhooed rankings go, last I looked my blog was ranked like three-hundred-and something! I thought I wanted to write when I came here, but I spend most my time reading and commenting on lots of really good blogs!

Horus,
I wrote a post about this once. Although it wasn't necessarily meant to be the "be all end all" of blogging, you might find it helpful. Go to Quirky's Top Ten Rules for getting your brilliant blogs into the Top Ten

Horus all I do is totally enjoy writing about my life and hope others enjoy reading. I get a buzz out of comments and try to answer them all. Also I try to read and comment as much as I can on others blogs. Its like having a whole tribe of friends out there!

Horus, I'll answer you honestly. I write from the heart. I'm honest in my opinions and if I dont like something then I speak out about it.... Rankings arent really my thing, but I do love to read others blogs and take the time and effort to reply because I know others took time to write their blog...

If you blog because you like to and its not an obsession about money or rank then you will do fine.... thats what I do   Good luck and dont stress about ranking

Horus

Just be yourself. Write when you can; putting your thoughts out there. If your posts are worthwhile, people will read. Well, OK; sometimes posts that are NOT so worthwhile (like mine) get read too!

Another suggestion is to read my posts (David1Spirit) everyday, without fail! Don't bother with the others....like Ariala! Not sure what it will do for your own rankings, but mine will thrive. But I will send you a nice XMas card!!!

the hot spot - you mean like a hot plate? Anyway, I have no clue dear
I just read everyone else's stuff - make stupid comments - they read my stuff to see just how stupid I am - that makes my blog go up - or down. and posting faithfully helps. and posting only what I myself would read helps me. sometimes I screw up - thank gawd for the delete button.

Horus I just write, I am serious when I say I don't care about rankings
yes, I do want people to read me but when I sit down to write it is a release for me and a time for me to write my opinions on life, news, politics etc. Somedays I can write wit hease and some day I may only write one post. I like to see what is going one around me in the newspaper, TV, or just anything that happens in life that I can share and write about no matter if it is humor or something serious.
