Well said

You are correct when you challenge the voluntariness of beliefs.  Do we have a choice in believing that 2+2=4?  Could you decide tomorrow to believe that the earth is flat?  Unfortunately, beliefs are over-rated.  When someone says that they believe in God I do not know enough yet to understand what that means.  In fact, what is a belief?  Is a belief the same in all circumstances?  Are the statements "I believe in God" and "I believe there are nine planets in our solar system" using "belief"in the same way?  Too many Christians and atheists "believe"  that they are and that leads to a great deal of confusion.  That is not to say you should not be an atheist.  Enjoy your freedom even if you have no choice.

Some people say we believe as we must, not as we will.
