Geez, StrickG, that sucks.

Actually, (though this post was in the light of humor) I was deaf in my left ear for a long time (had only 16% vibrational) due to a blood clot. That sucked. Sorry about your hearing loss!

Those test are not the greatest
mainly because they are given by unqualified people.  My hearing loss went undetected for 20+ years.  I always passed the test when given in school.  By the time I had a real test by a qualified audiologist I had lost 80% of my hearing in my right ear and 84% in my left.  Had it been detected when I was in grade school it is very possible that it could have been corrected.

Geez, I thought I was the only one with this weird random occurence!  (This doesn't mean we're getting old, does it? Cause I choose to believe it's just, well, something else!)
