I am SO glad I came upon this blog today. For more years than I care to admit I have been tossing around the idea of writing greeting cards... but I have always chickened out... though I have created a number of cards for family and friends and have more ideas written down for the time when I could use them or figured out how to "break into" the greeting card writing business.  So, I am grateful for this blog and the info and encouragment you have given. I HAVE A HUNCH I NEED TO THANK YOU A BUNCH!!!!!!

Eek, After a while, since it was redundant, I just harassed Louden on her
board - hehe.

I used to write greeting cards a long time ago. I got into it the same way you did, by flipping through Writer's Market. Haven't done it in a while, but reading your posts (I first saw you talking about this on your other blog) is making me think about getting back into it. I also remember Sandra's board on AOL, but don't think I had discovered Hollee's.

Jeff - funny that you mention Louden - she and I used to argue on

AOL all the time back in the mid-90's. We both wrote held greeting card writing advice bulletin boards. I'm trying to remeber the name she wrote under - it was Lady something - sort of like Lady of Shalott's name - anyway - we eventually became friends - Louden and I were both hired by Broderbund to write the greeting card verse and prose for their first edition of greeting card software available with Print Shop Deluxe. I wrote 25 of the humor ideas - I don't recall how many she wrote.

Anyway - it was neat to see that you took my old friend's class.

JollyJ - I enjoyed reading this post. Have never tried a card,
but this makes me want to try.

There was one I'll never forget! It was a greeting card for someone who was going to be sent to the electric chair. And if you ever read Mad magazine, you know how funny they can be. It went something like this:

Have a drink, then have two;
Then have a juicy steak.
Then have a slice of apple pie, like mother used to bake.
Then change your shirt and put on a tie, and let us cut your hair.
We want you to look your very best, when we give you the chair!

I read that and laughed my ass off! If you ever wanna team up and create those kinds of greeting cards, just say the word!

Exactly my point!  I have the artists.  Wanna go partners?  Should be a huge market for them.

I saw a parody of greeting cards, similar to the ones you are describing, in a Mad magazine once. Funny as hell!

I want to write greeting cards for the mush-impaired.  I want to write kiss-off cards, wish you were dead, hated it, and not even if my life depended on it cards.  Now, those would be interesting.
