oh it wasn't laws concerning the Sabbath
it was gonig overboard --
I think Yehua was apharisse, maybe, or close to it -- a Rabbi -- he aws asked,"why do your disciples work by plucking wheat from the stalks and eating?" and was looked at askance for healing on the Sabbath -- and he asked, "Is it lawful to do good or to do evil on the Sabbath?"
There were such laws as prescribing the amount of food to carry on the Sabbath (as much as you could hold in one mouthful) and how far you could walk (not a long distance at all).
it was laws on how to obsaerve the Sabbath, again a control thing on the part of the religious establishment.

its an ox not a sheep
the "ox in a ditch" precept.
oxen are harder to get out.
see? Yeshua agrees with Kooka.
I don't call the man Jesus because that's a Greek name used centuries later because the Christians wanted to distance themselves from Jews.
Yeshua is as close as I know to the man's given Jewish name.
anyway, I see what the boy is geting at
the original commandment (precept, more accurately) said to REST -- to not work a damn thing around your household. didn't say anything about synagogue or church or anything like that
a requirement for weekly worship helps people to give control to the church -- it's historical -- great civilizaitons saw the use to religion as a tool for controlling the masses -- so Jews did too; and Christians more than anyone -- even to the point, in the Middle (Dark) Ages of the church doinating secular kingdoms.
the Sabbath was made as a rest day. church makes it as a control day -- your life, salvation, immortal soul and such depend upon going to a religious service of some kind.
I think I just said what my son said in his post.
big deal

Did you know that Jesus called into question the laws concerning the Sabbath? He did this a number of times, but here is just one example:
“And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?”

Good point! I always found it funny when people take the Bible literally (quotes, phrases, etc) to get their point across. Rarely to inspire someone, but nearly always to make them feel shame (sin). Plenty of them right here on Blogit. I am sure you know (as I do) who they are!
But I really love the way you are turning it around and giving it right back to them !!
Next time my brother throws some quotes at me, maybe I'll take a page out of your book and throw some right back. Thanks for the inspiration!
