getting it done ahead of schedule would definitely be my preferred way, but it almost never happens.

Quirky, I think different people just have different ways of organising themselves. I, too, am a wait till the last minute person, but others get things done ahead of schedule!

Sounds like the makings of
 a true writer to me. You either got it or you don't. We are all creative in some aspect, but its the ones that know how to transmit from brain to paper that make a huge success if its something great, not to mention a deadline. UGH!
