Symphony,
Hi! We've had a rabbit for 4 years now. He thinks he is a dog and begs. We love him. Lots of cleanup though!!!

SYMPH & Tyto -- I saw a hairless, albino guinea pig the other day.
It was soooooo cute. I wanted really badly to pick it up and feel its soft-looking skin but it was in a glass cage and not to be touched. I especially liked its cute little hairless face and its little nose that it wiggled.

SYMPH - I really like the way you are decorating your Blog.
If you get a rabbit for your little girl, make sure she understands that the little "pellets" are not edible and are not play things. LOL

Hiya!
I don't think you ever need to doubt yourself or think people are out to get you - you're the most popular blogger here!
As to giving little one a rabbit, I actually recommend you get a couple of female guinea pigs (they need company and don't put a male with a female 'cos you'll get lots more children, and two males (bulls) will fight to the death!) - I have two girl-guineas and I'm 34!!!! But g/pigs tend to be more friendly and placid than bunnies, and they like to be handled (they rarely bite, and if they do they don't break through skin). Both rabbits and guinea pigs are easy to look after but you must handle them every day from day 1 to get them to trust you. GO FOR GUINEA PIGS (they're soooo cute).

thank you very much for your comment and for everything you said yesterday, it really helped me put things into perspective.
thank you for telling about the rabbit, that is sad that they can break that easy, I am going to find more out about it before I go for it......I am not into ferrets because I have never seen one before in my life, so thats pretty scary, I thought they bite.........anyway thanks again for everything.................take care

Glad you're feeling better!
I wouldn't go for a rabbit, from experience. If the kids don't hold them and support their hind legs 100% the rabbit can actually break it's back and paralyze itself. When I worked as a vet tech we saw this all the time when families with young children had rabits. Just thought I'd warn ya...
I got my daughter a ferret when she was not quite three and they grew up together and had a lot of fun. You can litter box train them and if they are handled they are great pets. My daughters just died, after 7 years together.

You will be great, just don't let your fear of the situation dictate your decisions. No, you are not a defenseless little girl, you are so much stronger than that. Regarding the rabbit, the only thing about those little buggers is that you'll want to keep them in a cage a lot of the time. They crap about two hundred little pellets of poop per hour... if your daughter is willing to keep up after it, then it's worth it otherwise it probably isn't.

Responcability
Eather a Rabit or a Guinea Pig might be a great way to help teach your daughter responcability at this time. It would be a good way to demonstrate the beginning of a new way of life for all of you. It would show her how - how you take good care of her so she can take good care of HER pet.

SYMPHONY
I know nothing about rabbits except that they seem to come in all colors, shapes, size and general states of fuzzyiness and furriness, with short, long and in-betweeny ears, and each and every one seems cute as, well, cute as a bunny. Except I do have a friend whose daughter had a rabbit that had to go periodically to the pet doc to have its teeth filed since its domestic diet didn't keep its front teeth naturally gnawed short (what on earth do they eat out there that would, rocks?) and it was starving itself for not being able to close its little mouth. Who knew? Glad to hear you sounding strong.

Your post just remended me of myself. I have too much childhood rubbish that I carried around for years. Its kie it haunted me. I forgave my parents and made a direct approach to move on and learn from it. Now I know what not to do to my own kids. The cycle has been broken for good! You have a great day also. I am visiting a Tarot reader with my daughter today. My oldest really gets into that kind of thing, and this lady is good.

Good job!
You have already taken the first step by realizing that you were hanging on to old idea's and rubbish that is not very useful to your life as of now. You are learning valuable lessons along the way, and that is what is all about. As for sleep, we could all use some of that! Hang in there. You are a sensible woman that is aware of your own capabilities and limits. Sometimes we must push those limits that inhibit us from what we really need and want.

Hi. Glad you awoke on the right side of your bed. Rabbit - had very short experience caring for one. It was ok except for its last living day; it ran away into the garden and refused to return to its cage. The neighbor's cat got to it. The end. Sorry, you did ask for stories!
You already got a black dog. Maybe a smaller animal in a convenient cage like hamster, guinea pig?
I don't know.
