Exceptional post, Friar.
Unfortunately, those that feel exalted, because of their religious convictions, many times don't realize that they are acting haughtily towards others that they may "consider" less spiritual than themselves. I enjoyed this immensely as I see way too much of this "seemingly exalted" mentality in my own church.

Tapsel-T
I also struggle with humility many times a day, especially with my own brothers in the convent.  Pride is the mother of all sins; humility is the only cure.  It is good that you were bothered by the admonition, but don't let anyone's admonition stop you from doing what you think is right.

You-look-fabulous, the body of your comment
disproves that self-exaltation and humility are just emotions.  Both are attitudes.  And I agree with your comment.

Friar - I feel like you are writing to me today since
I was admonished by P.I.M.P for daring to comment in the middle of his argumentative statements with an unbeliever.  He accused me of trying to "take the stance of a Godly woman."    This has weighed upon my mind overnight because that is not what I was trying to do.  The truth of the matter is that I would aspire to be a Godly woman but I know that I fail in many ways and, I do struggle with the humility part.   But, Ido not believe that women have to be silent when not in church if they see something that is unseemly for a Christian, even if it is a male preacher.  Thank you for sharing this post.

Being exalted and being humbled are emotions.
I think we must choose the work we find most agreeable to us without regard to such feelings.  Then, we may practice humility in our work, whatever that work may be, so that we are not cast down by the demonstration of pride in others.  Part of humility is to accept with graciousness that there are those who are better than us.  When we share their joy in their work, we can escape the feeling of being belittled.
