Feed the (Christian) Children
CF, I don't know if or how these programs work today, but although my mom had little enough to pass around our own family she always felt it would do some good to send to these groups where you sponsor, in theory, a particular child in a particular living situation. All would go well, and we would get one or two letters back thanking us for the money, or the pencils, or whatever pitiful offering we had made, with a photo of "our" child. The kids had to attend the whichever Christian school was the current sponsor (and I can't recall any names; it was several decades ago). After attending said school for a month or handful of months, "our" child would abruptly disappear, and a new one would take his or her place. It seems that if the children did not attend the school and become one of The Faithful, they also didn't get the help. I hope this has changed since then. I want to believe Sally Struthers and those others, and is so hard to have so much while others have so little, and dare to withhold it out of petty religious squabbles.
