I don't think it is that.
The mentally ill can be intelligent but they are fragile emotionally and under stress appear dumb because they can't function under stress.

is she a very intelligent person? sometime people like that live inside their head, and their minds wander a bit too far off, and they realize things they should never have thought of, and it's like a vicious circle, until they get so caught up with trying to think about not thinking that communication is almost impossible. take it from an expert lol
