Hi. I got a shock when I read the title. I thought it was somebody else other than your dad.
Many people come from broken families but they turn out fine in adulthood.
Slowly, I'm remembering bits of stories I heard and I use these plus imagination to mix and write my own versions.

yes it was a horrid memory..........I also remember my mum hitting my Dad over the head with her high heel shoe............and.I do remember my brother being hit quite bad by my Dad too, he was only 15 years old at the time.
