As far as the phone company can determine...
it was a crossed wire or something. They wouldn't be able to hear me if I tried - I tried picking up and saying something when they were on the line.

You are fabulous! I had a BP friend with whom I sadly lost touch several years ago. 
He was such a great person. I know you are too. Hang in. 
For the Spanish calls, just tell them: Necesito ayuda. Es una emergencia. Cuelga por favor. (I need help. It's an emergency. Hang up please.) They're people too
