no more bud man
i think all we can really know is this life.
there is no real "smoking gun" passage in the NT that says people go to Heaven.
it seems there are more references to "Hell', but since that's a word the King James translators placed on certain passages that don't really refer to a netherworld, then we've still got not much to go on.
only the Book of Revelation gives certain descriptions, but since this is totally metaphorical, any gleaning of heaven or hell from these passages to me is suspect.
a "good" god would not have us dwell on an afterlife at the expense of dealing with the here and now.

From my understanding,
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Heaven and hell are originally Zoroastrian concepts. Jesus confirmed that after death there is going to be a heaven-like place. Revelations and the prophetical scriptures, I believe only scratch the surface. I really don't believe we are capable of truly understanding what God has for us next.

waiting for an imagined heaven takes away from the reality of the here and now.

At least it got you thinking.
I am not trying to get people to change their views, but to think about them. I have no problem with what you believe and will gladly defend your right to believe as you will.
Thank you for your comment.

You brought up things I never considered...
but I think no matter what is out there for us when we die - we aren't meant to know - for that would truly affect the way we live our lives today. My brain hurts from your post....lol...you're too smart for me...and I believe in heaven but can't explain to you why, especially now....lol...although my opinion is unchanged

Hi kooka
Heaven or hell are here and now. They are solidly in the present. We don't need no pie in the sky when you die. Heaven to me is eating ice cream or water melon on a warm summer evening with my kids and wife. There is no promised paradise to compare with that. When I think of the some promised paradise with 70 virgins in attendance... that is a poverty of spirit that truly saddens me. Live long brother.
