- Go to The Way That I See Myself on a Bad Day
Pecanflower, come and bring your blooming self to my town and I will host
a small gathering and we will talk of things and no things. You can tell me how wonderful I am and I will do the same for you!!!!

friar, I painted myself the way I imagined myself to be, too. I am glad
that you like my bright colors. Those colors seeped into my soul as I grew up. I am either covered with bland and pale waterless desert colors or filled with the riotously bright colors of springtime and holiday celebrations. Imagining myself as a Hindu woman, raised within the brightness of holiday celebrations, unable to use only grey, black and dark brown alone on a canvas.
I just read a book entitled Anil's Ghost about a forensic doctor with the UN and taking place in Sri Lanka and I thought of you the whole time. The book has nothing to do with you, your life, nor even the Phillippines, but still evoked all of them within me as I read it.
I believe that, because it involved the loss of a brother and friend, I thought of you and your family. I hope that you found a moment to cry some. I cried over a pigeon's feathers found scattered on my porch this morning, a late meal for a cat last night and found that I was really crying over missing my father.

telynor, happy to tell you how to do it, what little I know. Thanks for
your compliments on my work. I'd love to see yours, especially your art from that last post, from your youth.

attax, a goog capitalist is right, not a good one, but a goog one.
Not successful, but trying, 'goog'.

That's so awesome!
You are beautiful
and talented. I like how you described why you painted it the way you did. Nice to see you. :)

That's great. And I love the art, it's vibrant and so alive. Don't ever let anyone tell you you are not an artist. Now if only I could figure out how to post stuff myself...

beachbelle, rather than paint all of my wrinkles, which would take too long
(comma) I decided to paint myself as a cartoon character. I chose the navy blue dress and lace lined collar to show my conservative, grandmotherly side and then did my hair with white streaks that would be there, if I didn't dye them all into oblivion. The hairstyle is close to real.
I suppose that I saw it as a poster for myself. I wanted to be a cartoonist in junior highschool and interviewed the political cartoonist for my dad's newspaper. He got Walt Disney to write to me and to encourage me. I never did follow that path, however. I did fashion drawings for the small paper up in the foothills here in town for awhile.
Thanks for the compliments on my cartooning efforts. Self portraits, unless one has real talent, should be small parodies of self, I think.

What a beautiful picture you paint. You always do so in words but this painting is lovely.
I love that you are wrestling the beast.

whim, some months I spend my entire day in the croc feeding tank at the
alligator farm, or so it feels. Like having a day job wrestling alligators for tourists in Florida, problems arise.

JadedMind, actually, my old self portrait, the Queen of the Universe one,
done in the 70s, when I felt omnipotent, (oh clueless and foolish youthful delusions, oh such misguided standards) shows me quite differently posed.
Wrestling alligators is what we do to survive on the bad days and more in line with my 'elder thought' of today's existence. Thanks for stopping by.

LadyKenobi, so then, you'll date and marry my second son??
I see another painting coming on, Lady Kenobi's Hero......self portrait....standing on the back of a hurdle jumping horse, I think.....with Medical Coverage papers in hand, stamped, "Full Coverage".

billy, capable of wrestling, yes, but not always willing, no?
There are clouds over the house that may just drop water again today and surely will up the humidity, making my old bones ache, especially my wrestling hands and old chimney sweeping back.......but monsoon season was so longed for that I'll take some aspirin and tough it out. Today's alligator.

If this is how you see yourself on a bad day, how do you see yourself on a good day? Superwoman, perhaps? It's a cute picture
