Sometimes people just lose their minds....

I cannot imagine NOT blaming the mother -- though I can feel compassion for an overwhelmed person who simply loses their mind, they are nevertheless responsible.  So, with a sense of sadness for the loss of her good sense and moral compass, I would lock her away forever.

(My personal 'take' on abortion rights is that with our current state of know-how, abortion should be legal until the fetus forms a brain --about ten weeks-- after that, no.  This legality should include morning-after pills.  That coupled with pregnancy test kits and easy access to birth control, gives the mother as many tools as she needs to control her own body and reproductive processes.  THEN, for goodness sake, we should have public policies that actually CARE about the child after he/she is born as well..... such as healthcare and equal education and protection from loaded guns left carelessly about...)

It probably stems from the confusion over abortion...

First a woman is taught by all of respected society that abortion is no different than birth control.  It's just a matter of preventing a child from entering the world in an unfortunate way.  She may feel entirely righteous in her decision, until the pro-lifers arrive at the Abortion Clinic with their protest.  Then she is thrown into a world of confusion as to who is the wacko and who is evil.

Judgment, and "baby-killer" names may very well be tossed about after a young woman goes through the process.  And then she is suddenly exposed to scenes of crime in her news stories about "genuine baby killers," as she is forever haunted by the decision that she did not ever create as an option, but a decision that she chose in trust for her country's laws and its doctors.  It's a sad state of affairs.  I would never blame the young mother, who is deceived from the beginning.
