Vinxi -- you have heard the official version now it is time for the

realities. Yes you retain copyright but other considerations exist. It simply is not prudent to post a complete and polished work of commercial viability that you are planning to use in the future. Excerpts, notes or rough drafts are a different kettle of fish and it is a common practise to post same and for a variety of reasons. Input from other bloggers can be invaluable. Establishing a disciplined writing regimen is helpful. Or just seeing the work itself in a constructed form can serve to aid in adding polish for the author.

But when the work is complete a few things must be considered. Though this is a subscription site it is still public domain. Where I believe the risks of plagarism from other Blogit members falls somewhere between extremely miniscule and non existant your literary agent may not feel the same way. Generally speaking they also feel uncomfortable representing work already posted in public domain. One must always check the legal language found in their existing publishing contracts. I got caught that way myself and at the request of my agent had to delete a pile of postings. In short, the Blogit user agreement is a well crafted document affording the proper measures of protection for the author but a little common sense must be applied as well. Good Luck

Wow.  Thank you very much for clearing that up for me.  I am very glad to know that.  What a prompt and alert staff!

Copyright

One of the principles of Blogit is that writers always have complete control of their work, including owning the copyright, and can do whatever they want with it.

The nonexclusive license described in the Terms of Use is designed to protect writers. It only allows Shaycom Corporation to display the work on Blogit, and does not allow the work to be published elsewhere without the writer's permission.

Your work is copyrighted as soon as you write it, and here is how Blogit can help protect your copyright:
* Since Blogit is available only to paying subscribers, your work cannot be copied by everyone on the Internet.
* When posting your work on Blogit, add a "Copyright (c) 2003 Your Name. All rights reserved." notice to your work. This clearly states your copyright.
* Every post on Blogit includes the date and time, which shows that you were the first to write it.
