More on rankings
Here's a more detailed explanation of the rankings.
Blog popularity rankings, as shown on each member profile, are based on the number of unique readers each day for the past seven days. We believe this is a useful indicator of the value of a blog, since it benefits blogs that consistently attract readers.
"Unique readers" means that no matter how often someone reads a blog, they are only counted once when the rankings are calculated. The purpose is to ensure fair rankings by allowing each person to only "vote" once.
Since the rankings are calculated over seven days, even four days is not necessarily sufficient to change a blog's ranking. The calculation favors consistency over single-day popularity.
Secondly, Most Popular Today is based on the past 24 hours, so it changes rapidly. For instance, say that all of the readers read a certain blog 23 hours ago. After two hours, that blog will not even appear in Most Popular Today, since no one will have read it in the past 24 hours.
So, yes, your rankings are a fluid number that will change over time. We recommend that you update a fewer number of blogs more regularly to get the highest rankings and regular readership.
Thank you! Hope that helps!

Ranking
when is the ranking number given to a blog? is it a number that is fixed, assigned within the first few hours of it's posting, or is it a number that fluctuates like the Dow Jones as the blog gains or loses ranking? the reason I ask is because the first blog I wrote although it has substantially risen in popularity, has remained the same on my personal blog overview thingie. thanks

Rankings
The number next to your blog is its overall rank amongst all the tens of thousands of blogs on Blogit. You can see its ranking within a category by clicking on that category and scrolling down until you find it ranked within that category. The total number of blogs in each category or overall is not available at this time.
Hope that helps!
