Moondawg was born there.  As was my mother.

I'll be in Detroit in September.  But by then you'll probably be back in Cali. Either way we could meet.  My mom lives in Palmdale and I'm very familiar with the part of Kern County you live in.

Detroit is cold this time of year?  I know I haven't been back there in a couple of years, but I definitely remember the humidity of Michigan in the summer and it was hot and suffocating.

First off
I never realized anyone was actually every born in the Detroit area, I thought people just moved there to make cars or build roads, since that seems to be one of the main industries there. Second it sounds like you have some great kids and I'm sure that if you have anything to do about it they will not be sheeple. I'm headed to the link to make my donation, and know things are really going to turn around for you.
