I hope we see some positive candidates in all positions in the future.  We really need some!

commitment
There was one great mayor of Cleveland:  a very young Dennis Kucinich (he was in his 20s).  He took on the corrupt utility company there and won. Dennis is the kind of straight talking, courageous, optimistic, eloquent, extremely bright, compassionate, non-corporate-owned candidate we need.  I hope he'll be able to at least influence the Democratic platform for the better, since he's still running for president and collecting delegates.  You're right, westwend, the left needs commitment, and commitment means long-term work.

you know, our st. louis officials took a junket to Cleveland some years back to get tips on how to run the City.

I wondered why, since I visited there about '95 to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and wondered what Cleveland had that was so great.

but it does look like St. Louis took a page from Cleveland with the schools (or vice versa?) -- the year is up soon on the outside consulting firm the schools paid 5 mil for -- plus of course cost overruns -- to decimate the system -- CEO's that act like Schools manufacture gizmos instead of students -- that's another story.

all mayors are alike it seems

St. Louis has its "good ol' boy" network that runs everything and makes certain the people they want in office get there.

right now I'm convinced that very few people get in office that the "powers behind the scenes" don't want in office.
back to the subject -- we need solid thinking liberals -- not those with stars in their eyes. the latter have a tendency to do sweeping types of things if they can without much regard for the consequences.

the Right looks out for big business -- sacrifices the little guy for big profits --

the Left should be looking to a better life for everyone -- we should all be in this together to leave no one in a disadvantaged position.

and this takes hard work.

we are a community. I agree with you ms. w., (your ant and grasshopper) that people should earn what they get -- you should also check out the social order of the ants -- they are a colony -- a community -- all work equally and all benefit equally. the queen gets the priveleges because she provides the next generation for the colony.

I don't know much about entymology' however, we all know these basic things about ants -- maybe I'll make that my life's work -- check out ants. :-)

In the City of Cleveland, we had a Napoleonic mayor.................

who hated the Police, and, well, he did not run during the last election, but we were so glad to not have him in office...

We now have a mayor named Jane Campbell, who has been an absolute disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  She has at least 5 felons in her cabinet, her husband had a brand new vehicle compliments of the taxpayers, and she has laid off many police and fire, and the city is bankrupt.  She encouraged the taxpayers to "adopt a trash can" and eliminated port-a-potties from the City Budget.  Meanwhile, she contracted the CEO of the pathetic Cleveland Public Schools for well over a quarter million a year.

So...............

Do we elect a known evil in Bush, or do we vote for a man who talks out of both sides of his mouth and has a fancy song & dance and says whatever it is he thinks we want to hear???

I fear, either way, we are screwed.  Here in Cleveland, we would have been better off with the known evil!  But Jane, Queen Jane as they call her,  had a great song and dance!!!  I am not optimistic........................
