What an a**hole!
Dump his dinner over his head. Actually, the truth is that you're probably going to have to kick him out and wait until he actually decides for himself that he wants to cure his drinking problem, and then, if he does, he still may find some other obsession to where he doesn't want to focus on you. I have an older friend who wasted twenty years with a guy who could barely bring himself to have dinner with her. She thought it was because of the drinking, but once he quit he was always at AA meetings, and she realised it hadn't really even been about the drinking, it was about all the companionship she had missed out on. so you have to think about what you need. Do you really want to be with someone who can't even be bothered to consider your needs? Wouldn't you rather be with someone you could spend hours talking to, who couldn't wait to come home and see you?

Try all ways to make him quit his drinking at the pub. Ask him to choose & buy his beers from the supermarket & drink at home. May be he needs to be slowly weaned off the drink. Try persuausion. Try tears. Ask him for his drinking expenditure. He has way too much money in his pocket. I know some wives who manage to control husband's excesses by limiting his pocket money. You know best how to tackle the situation.

Markd has posted about how much English men drink and he stops at his local pub quite frequently, so maybe it's some kind of cultural thing. The least he could do is call. When you make a special meal and he says he'll be there, then he should be there. Beat the shit out of him when he gets home. He'll be drunk anyway. He won't feel it.

Guess you have an Andy Capp.
Those comics were always so funny, but in true life it isn't. Perhaps it's time to lay down the law. The pub or you. My Mom did that with my Dad. He was always out drinking with his friends and she finally told him he had a choice he could either drink or have her, he chose her and never drank after that.

I'm so sorry to hear that...
Don't cook your husband dinner anymore. Make him come home hungry if he says he's coming home and doesn't. Usually when men get drunk and their out with their buddies they don't come home when they say because they're too drunk to know what time it is and how long it has been. Tell him that he needs to get a watch with a timer on it so that way when he's having a good time, and it goes off, he'll know that it's almost 4:30 and that he needs to leave because you told him you were cooking a nice dinner for him and wanted to spend time together. Make him promise. Don't let it get bad, Maxine. It will get worse and worse if you allow it. My ex used to do the same thing with his friends. I would call him on his cell and tell him that dinner is almost ready, can he come home. And he would say yes I'll be there in twenty minutes. Well he came home in two hours. That always made me so mad because it made me feel like he didn't care enough about me to call or come home when he said he would. Don't make it worse, tell him how you feel and make him promise.
